At Danny Robben's wedding Joe's sister Barb mentioned that there would be a concert at St. Michael the Archangel church in Sharonville on Wednesday night. She told me about the performer - Tajci - and that she had been following her around the city listening to her sing a Lenten concert titled "I Thirst". The concert tells the story of Jesus' last days on earth in song. Joe and I met Barb at St Michael's Wednesday night and were BLOWN AWAY! I loved every song she sang, but was particularly touched by "Silently" - a song about Mary watching Jesus go by while he carried the cross. Two songs are stuck in my head - Jesus Remember Me - and Were You There. (When I was younger I remember Mom and Dad playing Were You There by Tennessee Earnie Ford.)
Last night Joe and I went to bed early - 10:30. I woke up at 1:30 and couldn't get back to sleep because of the music in my head. By 4:00 I was crying - sobbing actually - as I thought about how Mary must have felt as she watched Jesus go by with his crown of thorns, beaten and whipped, carrying the heavy cross. I identified with her as a mother whose child was in pain and who couldn't do anything to help Him. I wondered what Mary's strongest emotion was - sadness at his impending doom - or was it pride in His accomplishment of this horrific task, and pride in the selflessness Jesus showed when fulfilling His destiny.
All this from a small church concert. Thank you Tajci.
